EMDR Intensives for Trauma, Anxiety & Distressing Memories

EMDR Intensives

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-supported therapy that helps the brain reprocess difficult or "stuck" memories so they feel like something that happened in the past rather than something you are still carrying in the present.

EMDR intensives are longer, focused sessions offering an efficient way to work through trauma, anxiety, and other stuck patterns.

Rather than spreading therapy across months of weekly sessions, the intensive format allows us to dedicate several hours at a time to meaningful, focused healing work.

This format can help you move through blocks more quickly while still feeling supported and grounded throughout the process.

I offer EMDR intensives for adults in Calabasas, California. Preparation and follow-up sessions may be held virtually for clients located anywhere in California, while the intensive session itself takes place in person in my Calabasas office.

EMDR Intensive Format

1 - Intake and Preparation session - 50 mins - virtual or in person
  • Review your history and current concerns
  • Identify the focus of the intensive
  • Assess current grounding and regulation tools
  • Determine together whether an EMDR intensive is the right fit

2 - EMDR intensive session - 3 hours - in-person in my Calabasas office
  • Extended time for EMDR processing allows the work to unfold naturally without needing to stop just as the process begins to deepen
  • Breaks are included as needed to keep you grounded and comfortable throughout the process

3 - Integration and Follow-up session - 50 mins - virtual or in person
  • Check in on how things have settled following the intensive session
  • Integrate insights or shifts that occurred

Some clients choose to add additional 75–90 minute EMDR sessions between the intensive and follow-up if more processing work would be beneficial. Because each client is unique, the exact structure of the intensive can be adjusted to best support your goals, pace, and readiness.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives

Intensive sessions have several benefits compared to the traditional weekly format.

Focused progress
Extended sessions allow us to stay with the work rather than stopping just as meaningful processing begins. This continuity can help the brain move more naturally through the EMDR process.

Efficient use of time
In weekly therapy, part of each session is spent checking in at the beginning and stabilizing at the end, which leaves limited time for EMDR reprocessing. The extended intensive session allows us to stay with the process and follow the natural rhythm of EMDR without the interruptions and loss of momentum that tends to occur in shorter, weekly sessions.

Deeper processing
More time available means we can move at a natural pace while allowing the EMDR process to unfold more fully. This often creates space for deeper insights, connections, and integration.

Flexible scheduling
Intensives are especially helpful for busy professionals or parents who cannot attend weekly therapy or for clients who live farther away and prefer a more concentrated therapy format.

Accelerated Healing

Research shows intensive trauma-work provides the same, or better outcomes than weekly sessions, but in a fraction of the time.

Is an EMDR Intensive the right fit?

EMDR Intensives may be a good fit if you:
  • Feel stuck in weekly therapy
  • Want to focus on a specific trauma or memory
  • Prefer a structured, goal-oriented approach
  • Have limited time for ongoing weekly therapy
  • Are preparing for a life transition or stressful event
  • Are working with a primary therapist and want to supplement that work with a focused EMDR intensive

FAQs

How long is an EMDR intensive?
Most intensives include a 3-hour processing session along with preparation and follow-up sessions.

Are EMDR intensives safe?
Yes. Preparation and pacing are an essential part of the process, and we move at a speed that feels manageable. It's important to know that you are always in control of the process and we go at your pace.

Do I need to already be in therapy?
No. Many clients begin therapy through an intensive format.

Can I do an EMDR intensive if I'm also in weekly therapy?
Yes. Many clients participate in EMDR intensives in addition to ongoing therapy with their primary therapist. With your consent, I can collaborate with your therapist to ensure the intensive supports your broader treatment goals.

Are EMDR intensives offered virtually?
The intensive session itself takes place in person in my Calabasas office. Preparation and follow-up sessions may be held virtually for clients located anywhere in California.

Ready to explore an EMDR Intensive?

If you’re curious whether an EMDR intensive might be a good fit, the first step is scheduling the 50-minute intake and preparation session.

From there, we can determine whether this format aligns with your goals and create a plan that supports your healing.

Healing doesn’t have to take forever. Focused sessions can create the space needed for meaningful change.
